The journey continues...

The children continue to get accustomed to life in reception. This week we have started 'Read, Write, inc' which gives children the skills to read and write. We learn a different letter sound each day and practice blending the sounds in words. For example 'm-o-p' makes 'mop'. We learnt m,a,s,d,t this week and the children were very pleased when they realised they could read 'dad'. Next week will be looking at i, n, p,g, o. Ask your child about Fred. Please ask if you want more information.

As the weather gets colder and wetter please make sure your child has a pair of wellington boots in school and brings a coat. We access the outside area whatever the weather and not having the right clothing limits the children's choices.

Weeks three and four

We have been at school for two weeks and have already had many new experiences. The children have all coped very well with the new routines and people. They have made new friends and played new games. They all seem very happy although by the end of the week they were tired.

The first two weeks in reception.

Welcome to Shirley Hughes Class

Welcome to the first term of the school year. We are looking forward to meeting you and getting to know the children, including their interests, during the next few weeks. We will be talking to the children about Shirley Hughes, after whom our class is named. She is an illustrator of children's books as well as an author. We will be sharing her books so do ask your child about the stories and the class name. The children will be learning about the 'achievosaurs', a family of dinosaurs that help children identify the different ways they learn.

Your children have new faces to meet and routines find out about in the coming weeks. If you have any questions or worries please talk to any member of the class team.

Let the adventure begin!
