6NB - Hawking

Welcome to the Class Page of 6NB (Hawking)

Staff in 6NB - Hawking

Welcome to Year 6 Hawking class. The adults that will be working with and supporting your children are Nicky Brown and James Fordham. As the class teacher I am new to the school and I would like to just let you know  some of my background. I have been teaching for just over twenty years and have worked for the majority of this time with year 6. I have been a deputy head teacher and a special educational need co ordinator in this time as well.

We will be working very hard this year to ensure that your child meets their full potential in the run up to starting Secondary school. As an experienced year six teacher I know how quickly this year goes and we will be making sure that your child is ready for their tests in May and that they are ready as individuals to move on to the next stage of their education.

If you have any concerns or questions then I am always available to help. You can write in your child's book or pop in to see me before or after school.

Thank you for the support that you are giving your child during this very important year .

What a fantastic term this has been. The children have all settled really well into year 6 and their attitude to learning and behaviour has been amazing. As a new teacher in the school I have been made to feel very welcome by the children in my class and I have loved being part of their learning journey. I am also very impressed with the amount of parental support from the majority of parents. I hope you enjoy the photographs and statements about your children's  learning and I look forward to meeting all of you at parents consultations next term.

From next term I hope to update the website on a weekly basis (usually on a Friday) so that you can get a really good idea of what your child has been learning in school on a weekly basis. As a parent myself, with a child in year 4 , I know that when I ask her what she has done at school the answer is very vague and does not tell me anything! If there is anything you want to know or ask then please come and see me at any time or contact me via a note in planners.

Nicki Brown

During our trip to Wide Horizons we learnt how to work together and communicate as a team.

In science we have been predicting and learning about how different substances react with water.

We looked at family photographs to work out how inheritance passes on through generations. It was tricky but we knew to look at eye colour, face shape and other features to help us. We nearly got it right! It was great working together and we had a lot of discussions about it.

For art we created fossils using a range of tools and our knowledge of fossils and how they are created.

During our maths lessons we have been developing our communication skills by working together to solve problems.

I really hope this gives you an insight into what your child actually gets up to at school. I look forward to next term and a continuation of the excellent learning that has been going on so far.

Where learning, laughter, challenge and community responsibility are encouraged and celebrated!
