Why should I learn to swim?
The most important reason is that swimming is the only sport which can save you or your child's life. ... Drowning is still one of the most common causes of accidental death particularly in children, so being able to swim is an essential life-saving skill.
At Temple Hill we provide the opportunity for our pupils in Year 4 and Year 6 to learn to swim. Our aim is to teach all children the minimum requirements of the national curriculum specified for swimming. We aim for 90% of our pupils in Year 6 leave school being able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of 25 metres and where possible using a range of strokes (eg: frontcrawl, backstroke, breaststroke).
